Past Continuous form (forma del Pasado continuo)

Para formar el tiempo pasado continuo en inglés necesitamos el pasado simple del verbo ‘to be’+ verbo+ing.

*A tener en cuenta: existe un grupo de verbos que no suele usarse en pasado continuo en inglés. Estos verbos no indican acciones sino estados. Te dejo una [LISTA DE VERBOS DE ESTADO] (stative verbs)

Affirmative sentences (oraciones afirmativas)

I was writing.

You were driving.

He was reading.

She was studying.

It was raining.

We were running.

You were singing.

They were comining.

Para formar oraciones negativas en pasado continuo necesitamos agregar el adbervio ‘not’.

Negative sentences (oraciones

I was not writing.

You  were not driving.

He was not reading.

She was not studying.

It was not raining.

We were not running.

You were not singing.

They were not coming.

Short forms (formas cortas)

 

I wasn’t writing.

You  weren’t driving.

He wasn’t reading.

She wasn’t studying.

It wasn’t raining.

We weren’t running.

You weren’t singing.

They weren’t coming.

Questions (oraciones interrogativas)

Para formar preguntas en pasado continuo necesitamos la forma del tiempo pasado simple verbo ‘to be’ (was / were) antes del sujeto + vebro + ing.

Wh questions (preguntas abiertas)

Para formar estas preguntas necesitamos agregar un pronombre interrogativo al comienzo de la oración (what, where, when, etc.) + pasado simple verbo ‘to be’ (was / were) + sujeto + verbo + ing.

What was I writing?

Why were you driving?

Where was he reading?

What was she studying?

Where was it raining?

Why were you running?

What were you singing?

When were you coming?

*Tip de ortografía (spelling)

Para formar los tiempos countinuos en inglés a la mayoría de los

verbos solo debemos agregar -ing:

 

Be – being

sing – singing

 

En verbos terminados en -e, quitamos la -e y agregamos -ing:

 

come – coming

move – moving

 

En verbos terminados en -ie se reemplazan estas dos vocales por -y

más -ing:

 

try – trying

lie – lying

 

En verbos terminados en una consonante más vocal acentuada más

una consonante, duplicamos la consonaste y agregamos -ing:

 

put – putting

begin – beginning
